Blast from the past: So-En Eye 1979 [Added alternate DL link!]

My scanner is bitching, so I can't seem to scan my SEDA like I originally wanted. DX But so that I'm not empty-handed, here's a retro magazine scan. Here be some of my mum's surviving fashion-cum-patterns magazine from Japan circa 1979. According to someone over at either egl, tokyoagogo or fruits (I'm not sure which one, I've forgotten already 6^_^000), it's So-En Eye. But, because my sisters and I tore off the cover (besides tearing off other pages and ruining a good deal of the other pages with ballpoint ink, as you'll see from the first scanned page) while we were still very, very young, we'll never know. v=_=000 I'm actually amazed this magazine survived though; my mum has always told us that she used to have a huge pile somewhere, but then we began to move around a great deal. It's really sad that this is the only magazine I found rummaging through my mum's belongings when we moved more than 3 years ago.

I hope you enjoy it all the same! XD;

I'll try to scan the black-and-white pages and the gorgeous patterns (with gorgeous 1970s art) next time, but only if someone here can give tips on how to remove the staples that keep the magazine together without accidentally ruining all the pages. I hate having to scan with the staples on since the magazine's ruined enough. T^T Thank you very much!

PS how the heck do you make thumbnails using just Photobucket links? O_o I never figured that out...

OMG... those are really gorgeous. I really love the whole skirt/dress/blouse thing there, and some of those are really the cutest items ever. *__* I particularly like the latter part-- has a really ethereal feeling to it.

Thanks for these scans!
whoooaaaah. it's the first time i've ever seen the 70s in color. 8DD
wow cool! so vintage!
thank you! these are really nice.
maybe use one of those stapler remover things that come in a set with staplers sometimes. or use tweezers to bend open the staples before pulling them vertically out?

i buy the current issues of so-en, so it's nice to see the old issues.

you guys were so naughty, ripping the cover off and drawing on a few pictures :)
I'm scared. The staplers themselves look very fragile and like they're stuck to the pages. =_=0 But thanks for the suggestion. :3

Also, yes, we were hella naughty. But what did we know? We were barely 5 years old when we first got our hands on the magazines. X_x Of course, that still doesn't discount the fact that we just let retro Japanese fashion gems die...
Ha, I had a similar situation about 2 years ago with my dad's National Geographic and MAD magazines also from the 70's. We were moving and discovered a whole box of them. Opened them to find out...these were the same mags I had ripped and scribbled on and DESTROYED completely when I was little. Oh the pain...
Thanks for sharing these! I like all the flower print dresses and blouses. Personally I don't like wearing anything with flowers on them but looking at them always makes me happy. I especially love the pictures with the model in the field. So dreamy. Makes me wanna put on a dress myself and frolick on a prairie.

I'm very anal about not ruining pages so I would use something to pry the staples open and take them out :)
Wow, what a great find! I love the last couple of scans, that's a gorgeous set. Thanks for sharing. :D
My favourite are definitely the last couple ones too, although I think the background has a lot to do with it as well as the outfits. Haha, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who defaced magazines and books with random scribbles as a child. I blame my parents though, I was only a toddler after all!
Hahaha, blame the parents. XD;;;
Thanks for sharing these!
Thanks for sharing, I love seeing the vintage stuff too!
They are so nice...
Thanks! Looking forward to more:D
I think this is hilarious. Japanese fashion right now is basically exactly what it was in 1979.
I'm thinking the exact same thing. ;)
wow everything seems not old xD trendyyy~ i like this :D
I love these scans, thanks for sharing!
thanks sooo much for these! i love the older issues
These are so beautiful, thank you so much for sharing these! What a treasure!!
Wow! I love vintage magazines. They are such an inspiration. :) Thanks for taking the time to post them <3
Maybe you scribbled on them because you wanted the outfits? xD

That's what I did when I was little. o.o
I dunno. I just remember I loved scribbling and would scribble on anything I could get my hands on, period. I got into heaps of trouble because even our one decent tablecloth got drawn with crayola. XD;;;
Thank you so much! These are so old yet sooo beautiful. I adore the last pictures; and I really want some clothes from that magazine now! ;O; The red sailor top, the sleeveless one? I love it!
Late reply is late but I'm glad you love 'em! ;3
Omigoodness!
This is fantastic!
You don't happen to have any more old magazines like this do you? Vintage fashion is the best. :D
Thanks so much for sharing this!!
Alas, I don't. This is the only one that survived. T~T You're welcome though! And I have shared this with bygonefashion already.
O_O THESE VINTAGE CLOTHES LOOK SO COOL!
- ima fashion freak XD
thank you!!!
what a treasure :)
